A Special Economic Zone is a geographical region that has more liberal economic laws than a country’s typical economic laws. The basic aim of SEZ is to increase the regional development through promote exports, generate additional economic activities, encourage domestic and foreign investment, create employment opportunities and develop infrastructural facilities etc. The GoI introduced SEZ in EXIM Policy – 2000 and passed SEZ Act 2005 subsequently supported with SEZ rules 2006.Haryana is the first state passed SEZ Act. The Government of Haryana signed a pact with ‘Reliance Industries Limited to develop a SEZ Gurgaon Jhajjar districts. This signed act as a catalysis for investors and a large number of SEZ proposals have been received by government. The government gives consent without analyzing of their role in regional development. The present paper examined the spatial pattern of SEZs in Haryana and assesses its role in regional development.
