Abstract

The present paper deals with effect of Ethyl Methane Sulphonate on cytology of Lycopersicum esculentum Plant. Lycopersicum esculentum (Tomato) belongs to family Solanaceae. Its plants are cultivated for edible fruits. Tomatoes are source of various vitamins and have good amount of lycopene. The fruits are used in salad, cooked vegetable, pickle and ketchup. The plants of tomato are generally 90 cm tall and much branched. Leaves are hairy and pinnately compound and 10-25 cm long. Leaves are odorous. The five-petaled flowers are yellow and fruits are berries. The present paper deals with different concentration of Ethyl Methane Sulphonate (0.10, 0.20, 0.30, 0.40, and 0.50 percent) were tried on "Navoday" cultivars of Lycopersicum esculentum, which is commonly cultivated in Gaya, Bihar. Some interesting cytological findings were observed at different concentration. Various stages of cell divisions were affected by different concentration of Ethyl Methane Sulphonate. Cells showed various Chromosomal changes.
