pulses plays vital role in Indian agriculture. All farmers from east to west, from north to south grow pulses. It is not a favorable crop in seventies. During this period of time farmers grow it only for their own consumption. They grow other crops more for their livelihoods. But a transformation was seen in the 90s. Pulses become very important crop in India. In the study area Karjan taluka of Baroda district, Gujarat, pulses once an insignificant crop becomes a vital crop. In 70s it a neglected crop, but the scenario changes drastically in 90s the pulses took the largest share of cropland of the study area.
