Increase in technological explosion changes our lifestyle in few decades; library and its services aren”t exception to it. Effectiveness of library service is now largely depends upon the information and communication technology. The object of the academic library is to serve for the academic user and staff. In this way I C T proves its best by providing fast services to its user. As technology has created changes in all aspects of society, it is also changing our expectation of what an academic user must learn in order to function in the new world economy. Thus the academic library has been depended on I C T cause of its lots of advantages which are providing best in the success of academic user. Few percent future of academic user is also depending on the academic/institution in knowledge gathering place represent by an academic called library. So I C T play a very significant role in increasing the quality of learning or degree of mastery in academic library. The paper discusses the role of information communication technology in academic libraries, highlights the challenges of library professionals.
