Abstract

A a lot of in depth summary of the historical development of capture-recapture analysis is given elsewhere. Briefly, the primary use of capture-recapture analysis is copied back to Graunt WHO used an identical methodology for estimating the population of European country as early as 1627 and uranologist, WHO tried to estimate the population size in France in 1782, however sometimes it's mentioned that capture-recapture analysis was initial applied by Petersen in 1894 for the study of fish populations. He used the supposed two-sample methodology, the best capture-recapture model, to estimate the unknown size of a population of plaice within the Limfjord in Kingdom of Denmark.
