Abstract

In the recent years, it has been observed that target of development is achieved by reduced regional disparity and improving the status of the women. The govt. of India since after liberalizing economic policies made efforts to overcome the disparities between male and female workers. These efforts were meant for ensuring economic stability in the country and equal opportunity for all. However there is no such improvement felt for those who are concerned with gender disparity. It is well known that benefits of development are distributed unevenly. The female work force participation in India on the basis of census data clearly shows that it has declined since 1921 both as a percentage of workers to total female population and as a percentage, to total labour force. The employment condition of India in recent past are not good. There is decline in employment in rural areas especially for females. But now it is a puzzle that why rural female labour force participation declined in recent years.
