EQUITY CULTURE AMONG INVESTORS IN CALICUT CITY

Abstract

Capital market plays an important role in the growth and development of a Nation. Investors are the backbone of the capital market. Investment is the movement of funds from the deficit sector to the surplus sector. There are several investment avenues for the purpose of investment. This savings are invested in assets depending upon the risk return perception of the investors. This bulk of savings of the country mainly emanate from equity share holders. Equity share holders constitute a major portion of the investment in Indian Capital Market . Equity share holders are the real owners of the company. Voting right and the right to manage the company vests with them. Thus their attitudes, preferences as well as perception of course influence the management of the company. So it is imperative that the equity share holders rule the company in a decent manner. The present study attempts to study the preferences, perception, attitudes of equity share holders in Calicut City. Thus it deals with the study of equity culture among investors. It also throws light to the factors affecting equity investment as well as the problems faced by them. Thus it gives many implications to an investor regarding behaviour, trading and helps them to choose risk free stocks.
