Abstract

The late nineteenth century witnessed the growth of British imperialism in Indian subcontinent. With the extension of British Empire in India there were many challenges before them. Industrial revolution and scientific discoveries were affecting the life of every common man in those days. This situation led to the need for continual reformulation of social policy in relation to the population both in Britain and its colonies.
