Abstract

This paper discusses the character & nature of hero in Paradise Lost, a poem of panoramic grandeur. Interestingly & also beautifully Milton maintains continuation of theme with sketching of the characters. Characters in ‘Paradise Lost’ push themselves on with the theme. Their action, inaction, faults & flaw decide their position in the epic poem. The highest rung is to be occupied by the hero who excels others in Patience, Martyrdom, Dutifulness & above all Heroism. Milton invariably defines & redefines heroism via characters & this art enables him to absorb the readers in Paradise Lost.
