Abstract

In the words of Chanakya “self-realization and self-initiative are the two most powerful weapons to wash poverty out from the world”. Keeping in view the widespread rural poverty, the economic conditions of marginalized and disadvantaged social groups need to be ameliorated. In this context economic conditions of rural women become more vulnerable due to unequal distribution of resources. Poverty and deprivation widens gender inequality thereby initiating a policy for empowerment of women by increasing their access to credit so that these marginalized sections of rural society would be able to acquire the capability and assets to become economically independent.
