E-COMMERCE AND THE FACTORS FUELING IT

Abstract

When was the last time you booked your travel ticket over the counter? Or you paid your bills offline ? Or you booked your movie tickets standing in long queues? These are some questions that highlight the importance of e-commerce in our every day life . In the second half of 2011 , as India’s 100 millionth internet users logged on and the number of mobile phone users crossed 600 million , it became clear that the foundation for an e-commerce revolution had been laid . Given the size of Indian markets and growing consumerism, industry sources aren’t surprised that e-commerce industries are reporting double digit growth. The rise of smart phones, secure transaction gateways, banks going online with a vengeance and easy issue of debit and credit cards have aided e-commerce.
