Linking this dichotomy to India’s colonial past, Badal Sircar (1925-2011), the notable propagator of Third Theatre Movement in Bengal, emphasized that cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, Madras, and New Delhi were primarily established to fulfil colonial demands.
