Abstract

Since its founding in 1972, the Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA), a grassroots organization in India, has offered financial services to rural women. In order to better understand how SEWA helps rural Indian women, this research report will look at how these services affect women's economic empowerment. The study is supported by interviews with SEWA employees and members as well as a review of prior research on SEWA and its financial services.
