Abstract

Peripheral intravenous catheterization (PIVC) is one of the most frequently used procedures in hospitalized children. It is estimated that approximately 80% of patients undergo this procedure during the hospitalization. Several complications of PIVC are phlebitis, thrombophlebitis, infiltration, extravasation and thrombus formation. Phlebitis is one of the most common complication of PIVC. Among hospitalized children, 3.2% to 71.25% of children who undergone PIVC developed phlebitis.
