Abstract

The state of Manipur boasts of a culturally-rich transgender community. Often identified as ‘Nupi Maanbis’, this community is central in shaping the Manipur state’s historical, cultural, and artistic heritage. Although beyond the assigned general status of arts and entertaining experts, the transgender community is subject to stigmatization and abuse, and is confronted with severe human rights violations in the state.
