The ideas of seven constituents of the state have been amply illustrated in various cantos of almost all the books of the Valmiki Ramayana. The poet of the epic uses at random the terms like Bala, Kosa, Mitra, Rastra, Durga, Jana, Rajan, Mantri, Amatya etc. in the epic. The Ramayana occasionally mentions the necessity as well as the importance of sapta prakrtis distinctly here and there, considering their role in the state administration. The term ‘saptavarga’ also is used in the epic to mean the seven limbs of the state.
