Abstract

In a democracy, where a multi-party system exists, as in India, if a single party fails to secure an absolute majority in the lower house, then a coalition government comes into picture. This has happened in India for a number of times. The latest one was the BJP-led coalition government at the centre, which remained in office only for 13 months. The Vajpayee government resigned when the AIADMK, a coalition partner, with drew its support.
