RULE OF NOLAMBAS IN DHARMAPURI

Abstract

An attempt is made here to present some aspects of the rule of Nolambas or Nolamba Pallavas in Dharmapuri. The territory of Nolambas was called Nolambalige or Nolambavadi 32000 covering the present districts of Tumkur and Chitradurga and parts of Bellary, Ananthapur, Kolar and Bangalore areas. Hemavathi or Henjeru in Anantapur district was their capital. They claimed Pallava lineage. The Dharmapuri inscriptions1 of Mahendra and his son Ayyappa state that they belonged to the Pallavakula but Bmost of the time they were subordinates of Gangas.
