PROBABLE IDENTIFICATION OF THE SYMBOLS FOUND IN TAMILI INSCRIPTIONS OF SANGAM AGE TAMIL NADU (600 BCE – 300CE)

Abstract

This article examines the symbols occurred in a Tamil brahmi or Tamili inscriptions found in the rock-cut caves in a different perspective. It gives new sight and ideas that no one says earlier. These symbols were affiliated with merchants and traders, suggesting that the symbols were associated with trading guild groups or individual merchants of the local villages. The main or most prominent symbol in these inscriptions is the crab symbol. The crab Symbol symbolizes the conquests of kings across the seas and their masterpieces in maritime trade.
