Agriculture is the main sector of the Indian Economy as it is the main source of supply of food for human beings. Agricultural productivity depends on numerous factors. These include the quality and availability of agricultural inputs like land, water, fertilizers, seeds, crop insurance, access to agricultural credit, storage and marketing facilities, etc. The main problems affecting agricultural productivity include the decreasing size of agricultural landholdings, high dependence on monsoon, inadequate access to irrigation facilities, imbalanced usage of soil nutrients resulting in the loss of fertility of the soil, lack of access to formal agricultural credit, uneven access to modern technology in different parts of the nation, limited procurement of food grains by the government agencies, and failure to provide fair prices to farmers.
