Abstract

The Nilgiri district popularly known as the ‘Nilgiris’ is one of the prettiest hill stations in Tamil Nādu. The Nilgiris bounded on North by Karnataka state on the west by Coimbatore District, Erode District. Tamil Nadu has 36 types of primitive tribal communities, interestingly all the six tribes are natives of the Nilgiris. The Nilgiris region has consisted a district locale for tribal people, the main tribal communities found in the district as Todas, Kotas, Kurumbas, Irulas, Paniyas and Kattunayakans. Kotas are known by several names like Koter, Kothara, Kothewars and Kohatur.
