Abstract

Mahesh Dattani is the most dazzling star of the firmament of Indian English Drama. He has shaped and reshaped the contemporary theatre with the experimentation in techniques of stagecraft and drama writing. As a dramatist, he has got success in making the stage very close to life. In his stage-setting, he provides minutest details and brings discussion in the conversation of the characters. He projects the ‘present day situation’ in the background of the past. His stage-setting becomes more complex, as he raises multi-level sets which are arranged in such a way that the entire interior of the house is visible to the audience.
