The oviposition is one of the most paramount behaviour exhibited by an insect for the continuation of its race and subsequent establishment of population. The present pest, Callosobruchus chinensis (Linn.) has the ability to assess the colour, texture and volume of seeds. The bright coloured, smooth and voluminous seeds were preferred for the oviposition by the pulse beetle and showed that C. chinensis (Linn.) preferred more green gram with larger seed size and thinner testa. The rate of fecundity enhanced on achieving preferred seeds.
