Abstract
In the last few decades India has witnessed urbanisation at a rapid pace which has resulted in explosive growth of urban population. This rapid growth in urban population has consequentially resulted in increase in number of urban slums and poverty. People residing in urban slums are generally deprived of basic amenities of life and are forced to live in an unhealthy environment which poses a great threat to their health and nutritional status, particularly the health of children. Children in urban slums constitute the most deprived and vulnerable section of urban population and are always at high risk of under-nutrition. There is an urgent need that government should adopt a holistic approach to deal with this problem. In this paper an endeavour has been made to analyse and assess the magnitude and determinants of under-nutrition among children under-five years in urban slums.
