Abstract
The objective of this paper is to go beyond the standard economic indicator i.e. GDP and try to laid a basis foran alternate economic indicator which could provide a much more refined picture of overall progress (Economicas well as Environmental aspects) of states in India. Thisis done by integrating forest resources into national accounting system using the Satellite System of Integrated Environmental and Economic Accounting framework for Indian states. This paper calculates timber and carbon accounts for different states of India and suggests to incorporate the monetary values of these estimates in the estimation of current GDP to calculate environmentally adjusted GDP which will give clearer picture of overall well-being.
